OPEN CALL FOR LIME LIGHT DESIGN TEAM

Please read carefully:

From today until January 8th we will accept applications for the Lime Light Charitable Design Team. Members of this team donate their time & talent for such great causes as the Ronald McDonald House, raising money for children's playgrounds, the Houston Holocaust Museum Butterfly Project, breast cancer awareness, Humane Society Animal Shelters, children's schools...and we're just getting started.

If you are a reliable individual who would like to use his or her crafting skills to help and bring light to others, we would LOVE to see you apply for this team. In addition to the crafting team member duties, we will take part in challenges on the blog that will be required by team members.

Requirements for applicants:

Twelve month commitment--one project is done bimonthly (December is not-so-secret-Santa, and our annual Lime Light Blog Hop in December/January).
Active blog that is kept current with at least 2 to 3 posts per month showing other Design Team projects, personal projects, etc.
Contribute to ideas on our private site/messageboard--ideas for future tasks, ideas on what to create as well as how to create, etc.
Follow team guidelines as posted on the private site. When you are given access, you will need to be familiar with posting protocols (they are easy), and other information specific to the Lime Light Team. You are more than welcome to ask questions and our Training Director will keep you informed of any new procedures, if any.
Prompt communication-this is a must. We make commitments to these charities, and it's important to be able to communicate what is expected when, and any restrictions there might be. A good deal of the time it's just communicating that you understand & are working on the task at hand. Communication is done by email & on the private site, and occasionally by telephone when necessary or desired.
Email pictures of four of your crafting creations to: imaginablecreations@yahoo.com. Pictures should include at least one card (with envelope) and one altered item. Include your blog address in the email.
We'll also have a "trash-to-treasure" section on our private site so that we can swap craft items we're not using with other team members; you'll just need to take pics of and/or list your "trash-to-treasure" items. This hasn't been very active, but it is available to members.
Your first task will begin February 1, 2012; so those who make the team need to have their blog updated & bio written by that date. You will be required to send in a picture of yourself for the public site as well as an updated bio (for continuing members).
If you find you cannot keep your commitments to the team, we will then offer the spot to someone who will be able to fill the commitments. This is a change since our last DT call. We will work around illnesses and unavoidable things, but failure to communicate and failure to participate in projects is unacceptable since (as mentioned above) these charities depend on our promised donations to continue their important work.

Even if you don't want to apply, we'd sure appreciate your posting the above information on your blog. We want the best people to represent the team to these charities, and we hope you'll help us out.

CARDS FOR TASK 18

These are some of the cards that I did for our Cards For Our Troops. They were such a fun bunch of cards to make. I tried to do a little bit of everything so the soldiers had a variety to choose from. Those in our group who contributed did the same, and it made for a wonderfully BIG stack of cards! Task 18 Cards for Soldiers

Our 18th task for the Lime Light Design Team was to again make sets of Cards for Soldiers! This task was sponsored by our own member Joanne. Way to go, Joanne!

I started making Cards for Soldiers (CFS) in March of 2008 when I first got my Cricut, and though all my cards are Stampin' Up stamps this time, I still do use my Cricut quite a bit to make cute cards to send out.

My mother is heavily involved in making Camo Quilts up in Wisconsin (they've been on the news and published in local papers) so we have quite a long history of making things for our military. Even before this last large deployment, we've always been involved in some type of project for our soldiers.

Here are my cards for this Task. I grouped them by theme.

These two Doily cards came from one of our Designer's Challenges - I got out my white embossing powder and just had a good time with the Doily stamp.

Here's a bookmarker with different colored embossing.

Of course, we must tell those we love that we do love them... it's always important to hear - even over the long miles.

Here was another Designer's Challenge - Find a New Technique.
This is called the Baby Wipe Technique.
I made these butterflies (and some of the balloons coming up) with this technique.

I borrowed a piece of vellum from a friend that comes over often to craft to make this flower.

Here are a series of ice cream cards.

I bought these buttons and stamp set from HSN. 3 Birds is the company, and they had the cutest set of button stamps! I didn't make too many because of the difficulty of mailing them... but they are adorable!!

I know lots of people that sew, SO there has to be a mom or wife (or maybe husband) who sews and would love this card.

I've always loved hot air balloons (though I've never had a ride)! I thought the Baby Wipe Technique here would be perfect for the balloon backgrounds.

Now comes the FUN!! This is a set of stamps called Need for Speed. I had a ball making these... and doesn't everyone love a fast jet, car, boat, or ATV? Enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed my cards, and I hope the recipients get as much joy out of them as I did from making them!

Designer's Challenge #3

Here is one thing I have found very useful. I purchased this letter holder from Goodwill for $1.88, but it didn't match my craft area that well so I altered it. I keep my most used and most grabbed Cuttlebug folders in it. Plus it gives me a place to write due dates for my design team work and message board challenges that I like to participate in.

Designer's Challenge 3 - Tips to Make Your Crafting Easier!

We are already starting our third Designer's Tip for you today! I was working on a project, and thought sharing some of our crafting tips would make your life easier, just as they do for us!

Here are 4 tips to make your life a little easier... at least they do for me! My craft desk might look like a mess, but I like things to be in order... and who can create on a clean desk anyway?? Not me! I like to have my things around me. :)

TIP 1:
This is my Stickles storage! I saw a picture of this online somewhere, and sent a (sad) picture to my dad and asked if he would build one for me. The next time my parents came to visit... this is what I got!! I later found the rose knob at Lowe's, and he put it on too.

This is how I show the different colors to see what they look like on paper. It's actually a polka-dot paper I found, and just wrote the names underneath. The additional sheet at the bottom was for the Glitz Stickles. There wasn't enough space on the sheet for them.

TIP 2:
This is how I store my Spellbinders. I had them in CD cases for awhile, found this 'flip' CD rack (works perfectly)... and was having trouble with the pieces making noise, and getting tangled a bit in the cases!

This was my solution: I had some adhesive magnetic strips... cut them to size, and the Spellbinders stick perfectly to the magnets! No more tangling, and noise! Everybody's always in the correct spot!

TIP 3:
This is a favorite of mine... I use them all the time! The tag comes from the Cricut Cartridge Tags, Bags, Boxes and More. I used some horrible paper I bought early on that's not good for much... except these!! I used just a regular hole punch for the tops... emboss the folder, write the name at the bottom or in a 'clear' area and keep them in order. When I'm not sure what I want for embossing, having this to look through really helps! When friends come over to craft, this really come in handy!

Here's a closer view of one tag.

I label the 5x7's special because they don't fit in my regular storage solution, and have their own spot... this is so I know where to find 'em!

I got these tins from HL... and have 3 so far. :) I had the divider tabs from some school project, and they worked great here! This is where the A2 folders are stored! I use a JoAnn's sewing pattern box for the bigger folders.

TIP 4:
This is actually my newest 'discovery'!! The one I saw used the Tab punch. I was all ready to order it, but realized I could use my Decorative Label punch instead, and have more room to write! The tip I saw also used the cardstock to match, but I cut these in white, and sponged them before stapling them to the sponge itself! I think it gives a better representation of what you get on your project.

Here you have just 3 of the sponges done - they fill a quart Zip bag, with more sponges on my shopping list! :)

2nd LLDT Challenge! "Baby Wipe Stamping"

I've seen this technique used before, but haven't used it myself and always wanted to try it, so here goes!

This is called the "Baby Wipe Technique". Not to endorse any brands, but I had Huggies thick wipes (unscented) in the house since I use them to clean stamps. I emptied out a clamshell case and placed the wipe in the bottom.
Colors used:
Melon Mambo
Tempting Turquoise
Daffodil Delight
Peach Parfait
Lovely Lilac (retired)

Use the reinker bottles and place only about 3 drops of ink on the baby wipe in a small area. The ink will flow together to make new colors. While you're stamping, it will also morph into some new color combinations.

Here you can see the cut butterflies I stamped and punched using the colors. Where I placed the stamp on the baby wipe gave me lots of different color combinations.

Here you can see the finished card using all the colors as background excluding the Peach Parfait.

I also took the baby wipe and used it to add some color on the solid pieces of cardstock.

**I should add that you do NOT need to use this color combination! Any colors that coordinate together well will work when using the Baby Wipe Technique!

2nd DT CHALLENGE - Wiper Card

Aloha all, Joanne here. We are on to our 2nd DT challenge and the theme is try something NEW! Great fun for me because I LOVE trying new things! Food, places, perfumes, you name it! So combining "new" with my passion for card making is wonderful. Sometimes new can be intimidating, especially when card making. But there are so many great and easy to follow tutorials on the web that it makes it simple for any of us to try a new technique. I found this one on YouTube. If you want to research other techniques on YouTube, type in "card tutorials" in the search box you will have MANY to choose from. I liked this one because I had not seen it before and it looked fun! I wasn't disappointed!

When you open the card a little "flag" pops up,sort of like a windshield wiper, so cute! You can decorate it so many ways, give it a try!

Designers Challenge

This is the card that I made for the Designers Challenge. Part of the challenge was to use a tool that I hadn't used for a while so I dusted off and uncovered my cricut. I had gotten a new cart and was excited to use it, too. I hadn't used my Fiskars templates and Ultra Shape Express for a while so I put them to work, also. This was a fun card to make. I hadn't done a gate fold card in a while and it was a nice change.

LLDT CHALLENGE 1

What a fun challenge! We were to use something we haven't used in a while. It was great to go through my supplies - it made me organize a bit and to find things that need to be used! I decided to use this Cuttlebug folder, I haven't seen it in ages, lol. It was also fun because I combined it with a new stamp I recently purchased and have been anxious to use. The stamp is called "Sunflower Scene" by Stampendous. I also tried a new technique from Gina K at Stamp TV. I am a BIG fan of hers, I learn so much watching her videos. In this one she was showing hot to heat emboss on a Cuttlebug image and make it look distressed. It was easy and great fun. Click HERE to see the video tutorial, and give it a try!

LLDT Designer's Challenge!

Old technique... new again!
For our first Designer's Challenge, our assignment was to get out and dust off one of our tools we haven't used in awhile. For me, that was my heat gun! I haven't used it in quite awhile, and I've been dying to play with the new Hello, Doily stamp from Stampin' Up. I knew it would be gorgeous embossed, but I had NO idea!

I've also included some tips for fixing, hiding, and avoiding embossing problems.

Tools you'll need:
Embossing Buddy
Versamark Watermark Ink Pad
White Embossing Powder
Heat Gun
Baby Wipes
Tweezers (optional)

First, wipe the Embossing Buddy liberally over your cardstock. This will keep the extra embossing powder from sticking to the cardstock where you don't want it.

With such a large stamp, turn it upside down, and ink liberally with the Versamark pad. Use the corner of a baby wipe to clean off any areas on the edge of the stamp where you have ink.

Notice on the blue image I have 2 areas top and near my name stamp that has embossing powder where it doesn't belong. (I didn't use the baby wipes on this one!)

On the pink image, I took an extra minute to wipe off the stamp edge, and got a much cleaner image!

Stamp the image firmly onto your cardstock, and apply the embossing powder liberally over a 'catch tray'. TIP: I've found that if I apply the powder 2 or 3 times to the image, I get much better coverage. The use of the embossing buddy allows the multiple applications without much mess.
I always use a tweezers to hold the cardstock... heat with gun in a circular motion until the powder turns bright white and shiny. Move to another area until the entire design is finished.

Here, to cover my little mistakes on the design (it's the same doily piece from the first picture) I added a piece of organza ribbon, and a stamped sentiment.

The Lime Light team has decided to shake things up a little bit and have even more fun! We love sharing our creations with all of you and sometimes we just don't have enough for all of you wanting to see more so we've created The Lime Light Designers Challenges. Each week behind the scenes the team will have a challenge posted for them that they will have to share here. They may even share tips and techniques on creating your own. What better way to also learn something new!

What is even more fun for us and for you is that we will be opening some of the challenges to our followers! These challenges will be geared towards the current task we are working on at that time. All items that are made will then be mailed to one of the team members and shared with the charity that we are helping. To add even more fun and excitement, you may even find a rak involved for your participation in the challenge.

Task 17 for St. Anthony's Center - Catholic Charities

These are my cards for the St. Anthony's Center. Some of you may know I'm a teacher, and while working in South Texas the Catholic Charities were very important to us at the school. We directed many families to their services... help with paying basic bills; electric, water, etc. food, clothing, shelter when necessary. (On a short term until they could get back on their feet.)

I was thrilled when this task came up - a chance for me to give a little back. :)

I had an opportunity to use some of the new release Stampin' Up stamps on this task, and some of my old favorites. :)

This is a new set called Floral Fillers.

I made 3 of these 'boy' baby cards... and the girl card is below. I really love this design!

Here we have the brand new In Colors, and the Stamp Set Delicate Doilies. It's one of my all time favorites, and it's brand new! :)

There were a total of 5 of these Black-Eyed Susan cards included.

The following cards come from the new set: Need for Speed. WAY too much fun! Boy cards and masculine cards are always the most difficult. They have become infinitely easier now! :)

The Pennant Parade set is also a new favorite... so many possibilities!

I can't wait to hear from our team member that is sponsoring this task.... I hope the cards are well loved!

Our cards for our last task, #17 are due and will soon be on their way to reaching Catholic Charities St. Anthony's Family Shelter. Here is a bit of information about this special organization:

"A family-centered environment, St. Anthony Family Shelter provides families with basic needs, assistance and support to gain stable housing, education on parenting and other life skills, and referrals to community resources. After leaving the shelter, families may participate in a follow up program to help ensure their success."

Here are some of the cards that I made, and I really enjoyed making them. I did a variety of them, with several birthday cards for children.

In Memoriam - Gracie - Lisa Ann Pine

It is with great sadness that the Lime Light Design Team must announce the passing of its founding member, Lisa Ann Pine, aka. Gracie to the Cricut/Scrapbooking/Blogging world. Lisa died February 11, 2011 and was laid to rest on February 14. In retrospect, it was quite appropriate for 'Gracie' to be buried on February 14th since she LOVED scrapbooking,cardmaking and blogging about scrapbooking and cardmaking... as well as any new product she could find on the market!

As the Lime Light Design Team, we were all shocked, and have worked the last task, Task16 for Parent's Club in a state of shock, I believe. Very few people knew she was diagnosed with Leukemia after the DT began. I'd spoken to her myself on many occasions and knew how important this DT and its mission was to her. Since all of us believe in her mission, we are keeping the Lime Light Design Team going - with her original vision and goals.

Some of the other team members can speak to her graciousness and kindness in troubled times and during trials. I am a little more practical (I think) :) and we always spoke about the newest, latest products... our personal goals for the blogs, our businesses, and personal futures. I knew early about her cancer... and from everything we talked about she was improving! I greatly regret not calling her in early February as I meant to. There were terrible storms here in Oklahoma and I was off work for 2 weeks since the schools were closed. I thought many times of calling Lisa to shoot the breeze... see what her latest project was... see what new and very cool scrapbooking thing she'd discovered... I'm feeling better about it now as time has passed, but I will always regret not making that phone call!

My first encounter with Gracie was quite awhile ago.. even before the formation of the LLDT. She already had her Everything Cricut blog going, and asked me to write a series of articles for 'newbie' Cricut owners. I ended up writing 3 and later republished them on my own personal blog. It was exciting, as I had used her blog as a tool to learn more about using my own Cricut more effectively! We never spoke as often as I'd have liked, but when we did, we had so much to say we both were talking at the same time! After breaking into laughter, and 3 or 4 hours later, we finally said everything we could think of for the time being!

We have taken some time before making the announcement of Lisa's passing so we could finish our last task under her direction and approval and then more forward to Task17 without her.

I've spoken with her mother who graciously lent us her support to continue the LLDT, and we fully intend on keeping with her goals, and mission for the future.

She always was thrilled with the support and comments from the LLDT blog readers. Your comments and questions on this blog and her Imagine That blog always brought her new ideas... and she LOVED that!

Task 16 items for Parents Club, Inc.

Good Evening!

These are some of the things I made for our Parent's Club Inc project (aka Task 16).
I ended up with 10 checkbook covers, 11 bookmarks, 8 birthday cards, and 10 notebooks with matching pens.

I'm posting pictures - but not the duplicates. I had a fantastic time using my Cricut, Kitchen Sink stamps, and some new stamps I found! (Check out the Cardinals and Merry Christmas.)

I had to include some Christmas things - my mom shops year-round, and I know others do too.

What FUN I am having making goodies for our latest project, and my first as a new Designer for The Lime Light! We are making bookmarks, picture frames, cards, checkbook covers, note pads and various other hand made paper items for Parents Club Inc. Be sure to watch the video posted below by Susan to learn all about this wonderful cause.

I don't usually make New Year's resolutions, but this year I did. I want try more and different types of paper crafting. This is a perfect way to do it! I have been working on these small picture frames for our first projcet. I had never done them before and now I am in love with them! They were so simple to do too. I bought a pack of small frames from The Dollar Tree (they measure appx. 4 x 4 inches) They were originally for a wedding photo. I just covered them with my paper and added my own embellishments.

Lime Light (charitable) Design Team; now taking applications

We are a design team with a unique purpose. We use our crafting skills to help and bring light to others. We have done much for many these past two years including making cards and bookmarks for our men and women in uniform, making journals for families whose children are in the Ronald McDonald house, making cards for baskets that help raise money for playground equipment, making butterflies for the Houston Holocaust Museum children's exchibit....and that's just the beginning. We continually seek ways to bring light to those in need.

If you would like to become a member of the team, we have three slots available. Everyone who sends in their application has an equal chance, so please do not be afraid to apply. There are a few things I will need from you:

I was so excited when Gracie announced that our latest project was to re-visit the butterflies!

I was lucky enough to make the delivery in Houston at the Holocaust Museum of our first time donating.

Since I made 100 butterflies for our first challenge - we handed in OVER 550 that first go-round, I decided that with commitments, and a family wedding, I would concentrate on 10 and make them very special.

Here they are!

Each one is just a little different, and has many special touches - inking, pearls, rhinestones, etc. etc.

The Lime Light charitable design group is making butterflies through the end of September that we will send to the Houston Holocaust Museum to be a part of their children's exhibit that they are putting together. We want your help. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.

A few months ago, our Design Team became aware of a little girl, Layla Grace that was suffering from Neuroblastoma.

We are each donating at least one 2-page scrapbook layout to her family along with some leather albums donated by one of the LSS's of another Lime Light DT member.

This is my contribution to this task.

I used Debbie Mumm papers for this layout with my Cuttlebug folder "Baby" on the solid yellow cardstock, and the Cricut Cartridge Hello Kitty for the really cute layered font, "Our Precious Girl".

I sincerely hope her family likes this... there's room for 2 large pictures, and 3 smaller ones. She's a cute little girl, and I'm sure she loved having stories read to her!

I really enjoyed this latest task for the Casa Belen Teen Drop-In Center. It gave me a chance to explore one of my newest carts from Cricut and one of my first favorite carts.

When I found out they needed Mother's Day cards, my very favorite card popped right to mind. This daffodil card has seen lots of use for many different reasons, but it makes a perfect Mother's Day card!

There are also 2 Valentine's cards included because that time of the year is near where everyone thinks even more of those who are special to us.

Included in the set were 13 assorted daffodil and tulip cards with different backgrounds and punched borders, and 2 Valentine themed cards.

This month was a task that was very special to me. I have had several family members who have had cancer. Last year, my dad was declared cancer free from his struggle with colon cancer. When Gracie contacted all of the design team members for ideas of charities that we could help I knew that Gilda's Club in my area was a place I would like to see about helping. When I contacted them about doing some cards they were thrilled. They are really needing them and are so appreciative that the Lime Light Design Team wants to help. This month's task was another great one! We were asked to make cards for one of the National Guard Units that are so proudly serving for all of us. Here are the cards I made for this task. Since the holidays are fast approaching I made some cards that can be used for those and others that can be used for other occasions such as birthdays or a just thinking of you time. Some of them are plain inside so they can write what they'd like and others have sentiments. I have also made envelopes that match each card.

I am so blessed and free because of the men and women that protect me and my family each and every day of each and every year. I tried to make a variety of cards for our very special men and women. This card features my favorite new technique. It's called Rubber Cement Resist Technique.

I am married to a wonderful man and I am a mom of 5 and currently a grandmother of 1 (Maggie). I work full time with a local insurance agency. I have been in the insurance industry for almost 30 years.

About 5 years ago, I realized that I love scrapbooking and card making. I love to create something personal for my family and friends. I have just recently become a design team member on a couple of challenge blogs and I'm having the best time ever!

I never knew that my hobby could turn into such an amazing way to meet people, but it's just been the best avenue for making friends.

I'm so excited to be a part of The Lime Light. I'm looking forward to creating cards and other things for people who really need a pick me up.

What better way to help heal others, than by offering them a smile.

(By the way, the AUsome is of course because I am a HUGE Auburn Tigers fan!! I love Auburn and I go to as many games as I can, with my wonderful husband. War Eagle!!)

Here's Lorraine!

I am a single parent to a wonderful and very handsome son of 18yrs called James but I also have two other men in my life in the shape of a lop eared rabbit called Jojo and a Jack Russell Terrier called Polo.

I have been an animal lover all my life and my mum often tells the story of when I smuggled a little kitten into the house in my dolls pram and hid it in my dolls bed.

I was retired early from my job as a Local Government Officer due to ill health 2 and a half years ago and now my life revolves around my 3 men, gardening and crafting. I have been crafting for about six years and started with scrap booking but then cards became my focal point especially after I joined a craft forum and saw some of the beautiful creations that were being shown.

I progressed to blogging about 18 months ago and I have made some wonderful kind and caring friends from all over the world. I believe I have improved so much while visiting different people and seeing their wonderful creations and techniques.

I am as proud as punch to have joined the Lime light team as I love being able to help others. I have donated many of my cards that I create for challenges to the British Troops and have recently donated some to a fellow blogging buddy who runs a stall selling craft items for animal charities.

My health does not allow me to leave the house very often therefore I love to be able to help others by way of my crafting.

I’m Peg and I am married to my very best friend, Kevin, of 18 years and a stay home (homeschool) mom to our son, Josh. I graduated with a BA Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in children with math and reading disabilities. I stopped teaching to be a stay home mom and later homeschool our son. Over the years, I did cake designing and even returned to school to become a Certified Chocolatier.

I always enjoyed making crafts since I was young and would make cards and gifts for family. As our son got older I found myself needing time for myself and decided to start crafting again. Three years ago, I began to paint anything I could find. Then, about a year later I started scrapbooking and found myself again making cards, too.

I love being able to use my imagination to create. I often find myself looking at things (often out of the ordinary for crafting) to find a way to use it. Plus, I find myself fascinated with different tools, papers, embellishments and techniques which are a lot of the motivation behind what I make.

I first found out about The Lime Light during the time of the Butterfly Project and decided to make some butterflies to share. I knew right away I would love to be a part of the design team because the team helps others and that is very dear to my heart.

There have been many times my family has needed help and this year by being a part of The Lime Light Design Team it allows me to be able to help others who need it which is very important to me.

CARDS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS - TASK 9

A task of love for many of us. My life has

been touched by breast cancer. My mom's sister, my aunt was a 28 year survivor. In the 1960's there were not as many choices for women. With all the research and development we are today on the verge of a cure. I am so proud to be a part of a design team that so unselfishly gives of their time and many talents to not only bring a glimmer of light but happiness to so many. Thank you!

This is my first official post and task for The Lime Light! I feel honored to be on such a great DT and am so super excited too! This particular task was optional for new members, but I wanted to jump on board and help a great cause right away!

This particular task was near and dear to one of our team members as her sister-in-law is a breast cancer survivor. The task was for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition to help support the patients and staff.

I decided to make a set of five cards that can either be given as a whole, or broken up as they wish. The cards include a birthday, thinking of you, thank you, friendship, and an any occasion card. I bundled them up with a pretty ribbon for presentation just in case & the cards themselves measure 5x7. I took two close up photos of my favorite cards so they could be seen a little better.

I also made litle envies that I filled with individual tea bags. Each tea bag is also indidivually wrapped in pink & black packaging since it is raspberry tea, and I thought that was pretty fitting for the task since pink is the breast cancer awareness color. I sealed each one with a pink skittle on the back & the front is decorated with the tea cup and a pink ribbon. I can't remember where I got the idea for these but thought they were really cute and a good cup of tea can often soothe the soul!

Cards and Crafts for Cancer Survivors - Task 9

This task, more than most of our other LLDT tasks has proven to be more personal to me than I expected. My Dad's sister lost a battle with breast cancer. It's been awhile now, so when this project came up, it brought back a lot of feelings for me. I also have a close work colleague that is currently going through the survivor mode. She had radical chemo last summer, toughed out work this year with a very difficult group of students and made it through VERY well! She's currently completely in remission, and has started reconstructive surgery this summer.

I'm so impressed with the group we're sending our projects to! They have a wonderful support system for the patients, and hopefully our projects will help them brighten their days a little more!

In addition, one of the survivors turned employee for the center holds craft classes monthly! How exciting!!

I'd seen this stamp at Hobby Lobby and walked past it so many times. When this project came up, I went right to go get it! This was a set of about 10 cards for our project. I also used some pink eyelash yard just because it was so fluffy and cute!!

One photo from this set is missing because two were exactly the same. This set of 10 cards are also 5 x 7. I used the So Sweet stack from The Paper Studio - the pages worked so well together with color schemes... bright, and cheerful! I used my Stampin' Up "stuff" to make the sayings... they just worked perfectly!

These were just too cute to pass up, and I had a little inspiration, so I made a small set of these A2 sized cards... Score-Pal helped me out with the scoring lines at the bottom... and the Martha Stewart punches to make the top border.

I was just waiting to use this set of stamps, and the background paper seemed perfect to go with these. I just made one, so I hope the recipient enjoys it!!

I used my new cartridge A Child's Year for these altered notebooks. The journal cut came from Graphically Speaking. I hope they enjoy these journals!

Task 9: Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (Lori)

This month our task was centered around one of our team member's sister-in-law. She is a breast cancer survivor. She is not only a survivor, but the center that helped her out so much in her very trying time, she now works for. She is also a very strong activist in Breast Cancer Awareness.

We are sending cards, journals, note cards sets, & scrapping supplies for the staff and the patients. We all (as scrappers) know how much scrapping is therapy for us. Well, these patients love it too.

OPEN CALL FOR LIME LIGHT DESIGN TEAM

Please read carefully:

From today until the end of June (Tuesday the 30th) we'll be accepting applications for the Lime Light Charitable Design Team. Members of this team donate their time & talent for such great causes as the Ronald McDonald House, raising money for children's playgrounds, the Houston Holocaust Museum Butterfly Project, breast cancer awareness, Humane Society Animal Shelters, children's schools...and we're just getting started.

If you are a reliable individual who would like to use his or her crafting skills to help and bring light to others, we would LOVE to see you apply for this team. In addition to the crafting team members we need two people who would like to join the team as a publicity director (will contribute a reduced amount of crafting in order to enable them to perform their specific duties) and a design director (for a new logo & stamp we want to create, as well as designs for the public website-will also contribute a reduced amount of crafting). Please specify in your email application if you would like to be considered for one of these positions (and please specify which one).

Requirements for applicants:

Twelve month commitment--one project is done per month (potentially except in the summer, when we've spread one project out over two months; December is not-so-secret-Santa, so not really a task month). A timely email should be sent to the group leader if an emergency arises & you won't be contributing that month.

Active blog-if you do not have one, you simply need to be willing to start one. Team members can walk you through every step (it's very easy, I promise).

Contribute to ideas on our private site/messageboard--ideas for future tasks, ideas on what to create as well as how to create, etc.

Follow team guidelines as posted on the private site.

Prompt communication-this is a must. We make commitments to these charities, and it's important to be able to communicate what is expected when, and any restrictions there might be. A good deal of the time it's just communicating that you understand & are working on the task at hand. Communication is done by email & on the private site, and occasionally by telephone when necessary or desired.

Email pictures of four of your crafting creations to: gotscrap@live.com. Pictures should include at least one card (with envelope) and one altered item. Include your blog address in the email, or that you are willing to start a blog.

We'll also have a "trash-to-treasure" section on our private site so that we can swap craft items we're not using with other team members; you'll just need to take pics of and/or list your "trash-to-treasure" items.

Your first task will begin August 1st; so those who make the team need to have their blog up & bio written by that date.

Even if you don't want to apply, we'd sure appreciate your posting the above information on your blog. We want the best people to represent the team to these charities, and we hope you'll help us out.

Did you know that each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all of the animals. There are 7 puppies and kittens born for every 1 person, 2,500 to 3,000 puppies and kittens are born each hour in the United States. Only 1 in 10 will find a home. As a result, 4-6 million animals in the U.S. each year are euthanized because there are no homes for them. Spaying and neutering is not an expensive procedure. Please encourage your friends of feline and canine companions to spay and/or neuter their pets.

How you can help us with our current task

Here's the low down:

We are currently making just about every craft you can think of in order to help some local animal shelters raise money for leashes, collars, toys, food, and just about every thing you can think of that it takes to take care of an animal, as well as maintain the shelter itself. We are making (and invite you to make):

-cards & matching envelopes
-scrapbook pages in standard 6x6, 8x8, or 12 x 12 sizes
-mats for standard 4x6, 5x7, or 8x10 photos (like the scrapbook pages, all the person who purchases it would have to do is paste the picture on top)
-bookmarks
-other papercrafting creations-mini books, maze books, etc.

To make sure everyone understands, this task is open to the public. Members of the public can choose between mailing them to me or donating them to your local shelter & hopefully taking a picture that we can post. Animal Shelter Project My Favorite Pieces

Here are just a few of the things I made for our latest project. Our fearless leader gave us the challenge to make something other than cards - and since I'm not a scrapbook maker, I used this as an opportunity to branch out and try some new things. Many of the ideas I used are from SplitCoastStampers. They have great gallery examples, printed tutorials, and links to video tutorials.

I have been busy working on the current task of making items that will be sold to benefit animal shelters. I found this adorable cat stamp set from Inkadinkado and just had to use it. Task 8 - Part 1

Task 8 for the members of the Lime Light design team is to make items that could be sold to benefit animal shelters. I had so much fun making these card boxes a couple of weeks ago that I decided that would be what I make for this project. I plan to do three sets each of - a cat collection, a dog collection and a mixed collection. The first set I worked on was the cat collection (being the cat person that I am). Each set will contain 5 different cards and this is the first set:

The graphics are from pcCrafters, the papers are all from SU and the words are a combination - some stamps and some computer generated. The gingham background was created using a backgrounder from CHF. The little paw prints on the first card is a stamp from an SU set called Meow Meow.

Here's the box and the box all stuffed and gussied up.

Task 7, A Help to Teachers and Students

This month's task was to help a fellow Limelight member. She is a teacher and at her school they are implementing a program to help the kids grow into more caring adults. The letters will be hung around the school to help remind the kids of what is important. The ones I made are very simple, but should be easy to read, especially for the littler ones. On the first letter of each word I stamped a paw to go along with the "TRACKS" theme. Thank you to all the teachers out there who make a difference in our childrens lives!

Our Task for April - Task 7

This month our task was to help another team member. Her school adopted an behavior incentive program for the students. The name of the program is TRACKS. It stands for: Teamwork, Respect, Attitude, Character, Kindness, and Success. Teachers have so much going on in the classroom and the work does not end for them just because the last bell has rung for the day. They still have lesson plans to do, faculty meetings, tests to make, and papers to grade. I'm sure there is much more to go along with it as well.

We were to make 2 sets of all of these words and decorate them for the classrooms and hallways. For those of us that had a certain Cricut Cartridge or SCAL - we were asked to make some paw prints too. Unfortunately, I have neither so I just made the words.

I only have pictures of the Teamwork for each set that I made. For each set all of the words are matching to the one that I have pictured.

For this set, I cut the first letter of each word at 7" and the other letters at 3.5". I used the Alphalicious Cartridge, Cut them in shadow (white) and regular (yellow). I embossed the yellow layer with a Sizzix Texture Plate and my Cuttlebug. I then used a red marker to outline the edge of the shadow layer & randomly color some of the embossed rectangles.

This is a closer view of the embossing.

For this set I used the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge. I cut the first letter of each word at 6" and the other letters at 3". I cut them in shadow (yellow) and regular (red). I adhered the layers together and used a Fiskars Embossing Plate with my Cuttlebug. This set is embossed with little paw prints. I thought it was perfect for this task.

This is a closer view of the embossing. I just wish it showed up better in the picture.

Sharing Love and Light with a Fellow Team Member

This task was important to me for two reasons. The first was because it was helping out a team member whose life has gotten turned upside down by something that no one can understand until they face it themselves. And secondly because I believe very strongly in not giving up on our youth. Our environments have huge effects on us and it is amazing the differences positive reinforcements, structure, belief, and encouragement of imagination can make on children of any age. I look back at the environment I grew up in and around and I will always always look upon certain figures who came into my life at detrimental times with overwhelming love and gratitude. I can pinpoint exact moments in my life where a compliment, a challenge, a card, a hug, or even a strong word kept me in check on a positive path in life,so to be able to make cards for youth who have already messed up but are now around people like RubySlippers who provide positive role models and motivation is really a gift to me. She told us that the they are rewarded for reading a complete book with a handmade card they are allowed to select and that they love the handmade cards be it to collect or to mail home to family and friends. Reading is one of the things that kept me out of trouble so I strongly believe in the importance of literacy.

I remembered stickers being very popular when I was a teen so since we were limited to certain items, I took a theme route of stickers. Some of the cards are tri-fold with some sentiments on the second fold and others duo with the sentiment on the front. I tried to make a variety, for a variety of personalities. She told us the youth have really enjoyed the cards we made and even shared a message that both brightened my day and also made me a little sad. I'm grateful to have had this opportunity. For this task we could only use paper, glue, glitter, and ink. When we all have so many embellishments and then to say that we can't use them. Wow, this was a challenge , but it was Super Fun. This month's task was to make cards for one of our own members. She teaches arts & crafts and has a card box that she keeps filled for the kids. When they read a book, they can pick a handmade card out of the box. She said they love handmade cards. This is a wonderful incentive that she gives them. Donna has had some things going on in her life right now that is beyond her control, so we thought we would help her keep her card box filled for a while. Here are the cards that I sent to her.

I really enjoyed this task as I am a big card maker anyway and having a specific purpose while making them makes it even more fun. I used a lot of stamping and got to use up quite a few scraps which is always a good thing! I liked the challenge of only being able to use paper, ink and glitter and even though many are simple I am happy with how they came out. There is a total of 27 cards and because I get bored pretty easily they are all different. I can't wait for these to be used!

I enjoyed looking through my carts for this Card Challenge - especially since I know I don't use them all as I could... This cut comes from Making the Grade cart, and the argyle embossing Cuttlebug folder.

The Wild Card cart is so much fun (once you figure out how to use it!)... gotta have that phone time!!

Butterfly Project Delivery!

A special THANKS to all of our team members and the public who answered our call for butterflies!

I delivered 529 butterflied to the Houston Holocaust Museum on Sunday, March 15 at about 2:00 in the afternoon.

Though the regular staff was not there, a security guard, and the young lady pictured above very excitedly accepted our generous donation.

If you ever have a chance to go through this amazing museum (cost is by donation only) PLEASE take the opportunity. Even though my husband and I are students of history, and spend lots of time in museums, this place just has a feeling all its own. We both (along with a friend that accompanied us) learned so much that is not publicly known about the Holocaust.

Thank you again for taking part in our project and making it so successful.

March Card Challenge

Here are the cards I made for March's challenge. I thought the butterflies were a challenge, but not being able to use ribbon or buttons on a card!!! That was really tough for me. I had a blast making them though!!! I hope the kids like the cards as much as I liked making them!

It was such a pleasure to be able to participate in an open call project where people from every walk of life, either neighbors or separated by miles and miles in both distance and age paid tribute to the memory of a child that experienced one of the true horrors of our world. Just like butterflies, children come in all shapes, sizes, and colorful personalities. They flit into our lives and skutter about creating wonder and joy and spreading love and sense of selflessness to all they touch.

The children that we are remembering in doing this lives may have been snuffed out long before they had matured into adulthood, but their spirits have lived on and they have touched us all these years later, letting us know that we cannot idly standby and ever let such atrocities happen again. All around us, in every single country, there are children who are reaching out, seeking help from friends or strangers ever resilient and fluttering along the winds of time, but with spirits as fragile as as a butterflies wings, needing protected from the horrors of a turbulent world.

This project has not only reminded me of those children so many years ago whose lives will be represented in the exhibit being created by the museum, but has reminded me that all children are treasures that we are blessed to behold. And that they all should be treated as such. I am very happy and feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to pay tribute to those beautiful lives. And I'm honored to have some of my creations fluttering along beside the many others in our world who have already or who have yet to participate in this event. Please enjoy the rest of my butterflies below and thank each and every single one of you who have participated.

TASK 6

The task of making cards for a fellow Lime-Lighter was not really a task. It was a pleasure! A call went out to help out with making cards and I did my best. Every card is different and there is plenty of room on the inside to write a note, letter or poem. The outside is also vacant for a theme if wanted. I kind of left it up to the writer to make it their own. Thank you Lime-Light Design Team for this opportunity.
